Marathon Co. Health Department investigating community exposure at basketball game – WAOW

They state a young adult was playing basketball with numerous other youth at Tenth Street Park, 935 Jackson Street in Wausau on Friday September 18th.

The Health Department stated prevenative measures to decrease the spread of COVID were apparently not utilized.

As a result a COVID exposure to lots of youth who were present and taking part in the basketball video games.

One of the youth getting involved tested positive for COVID.

WAUSAU (WAOW)- The Marathon County Health Department is investigating a COVID direct exposure which involves lots of area youths.

It was reported that the youth were present for a duration for about 6 hours and lots of took part in the basketball video games.

” This kind of gathering; including lots of people, over a long duration of time, not using prevention procedures; is adding to the significant increases in cases being seen in our area” stated Judy Burrows, Public Information Officer, Marathon County Health Department. “This is the sort of activity that contributes to community spread.”

On Saturday Marathon County has actually exceeded its daily recordnumber of cases and is reporting 78 cases.

There are an overall of 1,312 COVID-19 cases in Marathon County.
