Geisinger requiring COVID-19 vaccine for all employees – WNEP Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

DANVILLE, Pa.– After 18 months overcoming the pandemic, Geisinger Health System is now requiring all staff members to be fully vaccinated by October 15th.

Geisinger said currently about 70% of workers are completely vaccinated against COVID-19.

He said his sis died from COVID-19 after she declined to get the shot.

” I kind of believe its a good concept because I had cancer so, I felt like I didnt want to take opportunity, so I believe its a good idea,” Linn stated.

” I d feel more comfy going to a location where individuals are immunized and theres less of a risk of spreading out the infection,” Pat Ryan of Danville stated.

” I feel everybody needs to have a choice if they are going to be putting a vaccine in their body. I do not feel things need to be mandated. Despite the fact that, I do believe the vaccine is helping keep the COVID under control,” Shirley Badman of Danville said.

Geisinger said if a staff member does not have an authorized exemption or continues to pick not to get the shot by mid-October after being educated on the vaccine, they will be fired.

There are some exemptions in location for those who have authorized religious or medical reasons.

Geisinger said it pertained to this decision as COVID cases are on the increase and workers are dealing with more hospitalizations and deaths among clients.
