CDC: Entire State Falls in High or Substantial COVID Transmission Risk – 9 & 10 News – 9&10 News

According to the Center for Disease Control, the whole state of Michigan is recommended to use masks inside and when crowded outdoors. Every county is at least a substantial threat of transmission.
” Weve had to do with a month behind some of those early states in the delta surge,” said Dr. Jennifer Morse, medical director for the District Health Department # 10.
Less than a month ago, Michigan was looking a lot better than the remainder of the nation. Today, they look the exact same with every county in red and orange on the COVID Transmission Tracking Map. Every county is either substantial or high danger for transmission, according to the CDC.
” Its most likely that what is red will stay red, what is orange will end up being red,” said Morse, “And will stay that way for a while.”
For how long is a while? Health specialists can only forecast off previous experiences.
” There is now the expectation based on the last 2 rises that our hospitalization peak will remain in October,” stated Morse, “Hopefully we wont see it that bad or that long due to the fact that our vaccination rates are higher now than they were with our last surge.”
Red and orange counties are advised to use masks inside your home, no matter vaccination status. This is especially pertinent as trainees are heading back to school.
” I personally speak with schools once a week, and over the last month, have followed messaging which follows the CDC recommended guidelines,” stated Morse, “That there need to be masking for all school structures and activities K-12.”
Mason County Central? Mason County Eastern is going with no mandate of any kind.
This is what you see when left to each district, some like that concept while others see an issue.
” The best method would be if we just had a statewide mandate because then its uniform throughout the whole state,” stated Morse, “We have school districts that do cross county lines and health department lines so it makes it really puzzling if its delegated the individual health department.”
